bit by the bug

this past weekend, i got bit by the sewing bug and boy was it awesome. xander has been rolling over a lot lately and there was a few nights where we found him with an appendage hanging out of the crib. he was not a happy camper. sam so kindly asked that i finish the bedding that i started BEFORE the baby was born so that we could get some use out of it.  so i made a trip to joann's on friday and came home with some plain black ribbon to finish the ties for the crib bumpers, since that was all that i had left to do.

friday night, i got on my sewing machine and had the bumpers done in under an hour.

i woke up saturday morning and had this overwhelming urge to sew some more. a few months back, i had bought some fabric to make my own drawstring project bags for my knitting. i had been searching etsy for bags and while i was in love with many of them, i wanted to try my hand at making my own. so i pulled out the fabric and ribbon and got to sewing.

the first one took me about 45 minutes to make. i am a newer sewer and was having some technical machine-induced operator-induced difficulties.

the second bag took me about 30 minutes to make. the third....15 minutes max.

i used the easy drawstring tutorial from purl bee and it is sooooo easy. i had an afghan square swap that i am in with the knitgirllls and i'm thinking that ill send the square with some other goodies in a project bag. they would also make great gift bags for some things that i have coming up.

i have a whole board on pinterest dedicated to sewing inspiration. i think i may have another obsession....

p.s. if you like the idea of having an online bulletin board, just leave your email in the comments section and ill send you an invite.

  1. Now that's what I love about sewing...you get to pick your own colors & fabric for home decor...xander's bedding is beautiful! And I'm going to check out those drawstring bags...so much better than carrying my knitting around in plastic bags ;)
